Generous grant assists Marlborough Sounds flood-affected community
28 November, 2022

The local Marlborough Sounds community that was badly hit by the recent August flooding have received assistance thanks to a generous donation of $10,000 by The Tindall Foundation. The donation, passed through via the Top of the South Community Foundation, will help to repair the iconic and popular Te Ara Tuhono Link Pathway track that was destroyed in parts by the dramatic weather event.

Rick Edmonds, the Link Pathway Trust Executive Officer said that to see the destruction after the storm was heart-breaking.

“Many volunteers have been working hard ever since to get the damaged sections repaired and reusable again. This grant from The Tindall Foundation through the Top of the South Community Foundation is so welcome and we are sincerely thankful for their support.”

“The pathway is a treasured facility for local families, linking the various communities, and providing a means to safely enjoy the stunning Marlborough Sounds environment”, says Rick.

Gavin Larsen, the Executive Officer at Top of the South Community Foundation, said the generosity of The Tindall Foundation was superb and it will mean so much to families in the Marlborough Sounds area to have the pathway rebuilt.

“The damage to the pathway was massive and this grant will offer a great opportunity to repair key sections and to re-connect small communities”, he said.

Marlborough District Council Mayor Nadine Taylor she said she is very grateful to the Tindall Foundation for the generous support.

“It has been especially difficult for the Link Pathway Trust and volunteers with two major storms in just over a year, both of which severely affected their operation. This funding means the track will be up and running again for families and individuals to enjoy this summer”, says Nadine.
