Zest for Life Trust is putting a serious amount of effort into making a difference to the lives of people in the Nelson-Tasman region who have ME/CFS. People with debilitating symptoms can spend literally years lying in bed. One patient said, ‘it feels like someone took my blood out and replaced it with cement’.
Their first major fundraising event is the Baton Biker’s Banquet on Saturday 10th February 2024,where the Trust will host guests on the lawn of the Baton House, a replica of the hotel that stood in the valley in the 1860s. Lucky participants will be treated to a 3 course lunch and wandering minstrels after cycling up the beautiful Baton Valley on Nelson’s Great Taste Trail. There are cycling options for all abilities and it’s the perfect opportunity to ride over the stunning new Baton River cycle bridge, known as Lublow’s Leap.
Here are the details of the event which is limited to 150 (lucky 🙂) people. Zest for Life hold a Community Fund with our Community Foundation. The suggested donation is $100 per rider.
ME/CFS is a chronic illness involving overwhelming ongoing fatigue, often triggered by a viral illness. Its estimated at least 25,000 New Zealanders have this condition, 25% severely so that they are house- or bed-bound, and some unable to care for themselves.
