Marlborough families assisted after flooding disaster.
17 September, 2021

Marlborough families hit hard by the recent August flooding have received assistance thanks to a generous donation of $5000 by The Tindall Foundation. The donation, passed through to the Marlborough Mayoral Relief Fund via the Top of the South Community Foundation, is helping affected families get their lives back in order after the devastating flooding.

The local Community Foundation has been liaising with the Marlborough District Council in relation to the operational aspects of the donation.

Gavin Larsen, the Executive Officer at Top of the South Community Foundation, said it was great to partner with The Tindall Foundation for such a worthwhile cause.

“The damage caused by the flooding is evident to everyone, and it’s nice to be able to help affected Marlborough families in a small way”, he said.

Martina O’Driscoll, The Tindall Foundation’s Funding and Relationships Manager, added that the Foundation greatly values the partnerships they have with Community Foundations across New Zealand, including The Top of the South to help deliver this donation.

“We have a high-trust relationship with Gavin and his team at Top of the South and we know that together we can create positive community impact in this region. Helping to build resilient, secure and thriving families is central to what we do at TTF.  We hope this donation will assist a few Marlborough families affected by the flooding to get back on their feet.”

Jodie Griffiths, Marlborough District Council Community Partnerships Advisor, said that any financial assistance for the flooding damage was gratefully received, and it was heart-warming to receive assistance from organisations around New Zealand, such as from The Tindall Foundation.

“Many of our Marlborough residents have been badly affected, and this gift is very welcome as it helps us spread our reach and support families who are in real need.” she said.

The Marlborough Mayoral Fund has been used to help affected households suffering from hardship, with funding to cover cost of food, utilities, and other similar essential costs.

There are also households who have received funding towards urgent repair costs not covered by insurance, and to help with more complex circumstances where homes have been deemed uninhabitable.
